    According to the Big Rip theory, the universe will end up completely decaying in the next few tens of billions of years, with nothing able to survive when dark energy prevails.

    Big Freeze: Frozen Universe

    Another scenario is called Big Freezeor the “freezing” of the universe. In this scenario, dark energy would continue to push galaxies apart, but not strong enough to completely disintegrate everything. However, constant expansion will make the universe extremely large and cold. Stars will gradually run out of fuel and shut down, no longer having light or heat to sustain life or any activity.

    Big Freeze is a “slower” scenario than Big Rip, but it still leads to a lonely universe where everything gradually dies over time.
